Ningxia is the nearest one from Taipei Station. It is also my favorite. It offers a wide variety of Taiwanese snacks and most of them are very tasty.
The star of Ningxia Night Market is probably Liu Yu Zi's (劉芋仔) Deep Fried Taro Balls (香酥芋丸). I am a fan too. I always save room for two of these yummy taro balls. (I prefer the ones without egg yolk). Don't worry about not finding them. Just follow the line. There is always one - no matter what day and hour you go, Just remember: eat it while it is piping hot!
The other shop I have been wanting to try forever is Wan Kee's Sesame Oil Chicken. I'd love to try the pork kidney here!
Pork liver soup and Taiwanese rice dumplings are one of my favorites. My mom said a local recommended her to try this place so here we came. To be very honest, I thought the pork liver soup was only okay. I think the liver is overcooked and a bit tough but I think that's the Cantonese in me...
Taiwanese oysters pancakes are also very popular. In fact, the most popular shop is not inside the night market proper. Yet, the show this guy put up in front of his shop is enough to lure hungry customers in. :) Personally, I still prefer the Xiamen style oysters pancakes which offer more crunch.
There are a few dozen shops along the street in the night market and I am sure you will find something that suit your taste. Otherwise, it's still fun to see all the colorful snacks and drinks offered here. :) (The pictures below are from an earlier trip - October 2013.)
Don't forget to try some Taiwanese sausage |
My mom's favorite :) These are seasonal and tastes like water chestnuts. |
I love these. It's jello like and supposedly very good to combat acne! |
Last but not least... must try some deep fried pepper chicken!!! |
