Mala Hotpot (Zhongxiao) (馬辣頂級麻辣鴛鴦鍋) (忠孝店)

Here's another post on hot pot restaurants I have been to in Taipei, Taiwan.  I went there last year but didn't blog about it originally because I did not particularly enjoyed my experience.  (It's actually quite popular among both tourists and locals...)

"International Travelers Requested Restaurant"
-.-|||
I did request it after all...
My friends, after seeing I was sorely disappointed, said,
"Don't worry, we will take you to better places next time."

I went there based on raving reviews from friends but I have to say I was quite disappointed...  With that said, your experience could be very different compared to mine.  Many come for their all-you-can-eat Movenpick + Häagen Dazs ice cream... (if this is your thing but I thought this is supposed to be a hotpot restaurant...)

Reservation is recommended and time is limited to 120 minutes per table

You can choose 2 out of the 5 different soup bases
We went for the classic vegetable + signature spicy broth

There is a buffet bar for all the ingredients except for the meats,
which you have to order with the servers.
It's all-you-can-eat but I believe the limit how many you can order each round

The ingredients are average at best and the soup base was less than memorable.  I think I skipped the seafood altogether after trying the shrimp and scallop, which was a disaster.  It's inexpensive but I'd rather pay more for better quality...

You can see we mainly stick with vegetables -.-|||

This is chicken sperm sack.
It must be a Taiwanese thing because I don't recall ever seeing them on the menu in Hong Kong.
My friends, who are local Taiwanese, tried and said they think this one is synthetic,
since it doesn't taste like the real deal at all.
I didn't eat this since this is outside my comfort zone already... ^^|||
