Cheung Kei is located in the old part of town and has been around for half a century. Locals flock here for their signature bamboo noodles that is cheap and delicious. Now, there are just too many tourists. The portion is smaller, the price is higher, but the place is always crowded. It simply wasn't what it used to be. We left the place hungry and had to go for dinner #2...
Blanch Fish Skin (灼魚皮) I missed the days when I can get a full bowl of this and eat till my heart's content! |
The Signature Bamboo Noodles (招牌蝦子撈麵) The dish in the back is my favorite Fried Dace Balls Rolled in Rice (金沙鯪魚球) |
The making of the bamboo noodles requires a lot of physical labor. (See a video here.) So imagine if you have to make a large batch of this everyday. The sadder thing is that our next generation doesn't even want to enter the field. Well, who wants to spend all the effort learning how to make bamboo noodles when they can make more money sitting in an air-conditioned room dealing cards?
I guess this is the price we have to pay for being a tourist town?
