Pang Pang Korean BBQ Restaurant

To Kwa Wan (土瓜灣) is not a popular destination of choice when it comes to dining out because there is no subway!  A station is proposed but I think it will be a while before it will be completed.  So we are here one night under a friend's recommendation.  He lives in the area so he knows the hole-in-the-wall eateries in the neighborhood.

It wasn't even on Openrice when I first went there.  It's definitely one of those mom-and-pop shops where you won't expect a line and/or a crowd.  I have to be honest I did not expect anything going in so I was not too disappointed.  In terms of price, they are relatively cheaper compared to the other Korea BBQ restaurants that I frequent.  (But of course, you pay for what you eat... The quality of the meat here do leave a lot to be desired and I will gladly pay HK$100 extra for better quality food.  But I understand not all of us want to spend so much on food, which I respect.)

The small dishes are authentic and thankfully they are refillable.  Again, don't expect high quality meat here - that's just unrealistic.  The meat here is frozen and you can probably find better quality meat from your local butcher / frozen food stores.  The customers next to our table complained about their food and how the menu is deceiving - their "seafood" pancake did not have any seafood.  The owner defended herself by picking out 3 tiny bits of seafood from the pancake.  Well, as I have said, you get what you paid for and if you want better food, go elsewhere.  Pay the extra.  It's not worth arguing over the HK$30 bucks.  Seorae and Futago are two of my recent favorites and honestly, they are not that much more expensive but the line at Seorae can be ridiculous and it's hard to get a reservation at Futago.

Anyhow, if you just want a casual dinner with friends where the company is more important than the food and it's something ad hoc and you don't want to wait in line, you can consider this place.  Chances are, there won't be a line.
